Hi. I'm Kevin Lum

I started this firm because of what happened to my mother.

When my father died entirely too young, I went to help her find a financial advisor. What I found instead was an industry of glorified salespeople working on commission, pushing products that were plainly not in her best interest.

So I built the firm I wished she'd been able to walk into. Foundry is fiduciary — no products, no divided loyalties. Just advice you're paying for, which means we’re working in your best interest – not Wall Streets.

Today I work with frugal savers who have a tax problem. You did the hard part — you saved. Now the challenge is keeping more of it: coordinating Roth conversions, Social Security timing, and withdrawal sequencing so a lifetime of discipline doesn't get handed back in taxes you never had to pay.

But the math on when to retire is usually the solvable part. What's harder is giving yourself permission to spend money you spent forty years learning not to spend. That's why we start every relationship with why. At Foundry, we see money as a tool, not a scoreboard — and financial planning isn't just about growing your wealth, it's about giving you permission to use it.

About Kevin Lum

'Money is a tool, not a scoreboard. The saddest plans I see are the ones where someone won the game and never noticed.”

Kevin helps successful savers turn a lifetime of discipline into a retirement they actually enjoy. He works with people who did everything right — maxed the 401(k), lived below their means, built real wealth — and now face a different problem: a tax bill that grows every year they don't plan for it.

Kevin has been an entrepreneur since he was old enough to make change, from selling rocks to neighbors to running a business out of his parents' garage to becoming the youngest Dish Network dealer in the country. He later spent years in the nonprofit world, first as an executive at an organization providing medical care, food, and legal aid to the under-served, then at Sojourners, where he built a national network of leaders working to reduce poverty — 900 members in year one, and eventually 6,000 across forty-nine states and eleven countries.

He founded Foundry Financial as a fiduciary firm and now hosts Retirement Made Simple, a podcast and YouTube channel about retiring without worry. Each month his channel reaches over 500,000 viewers. He studied impact investing and financial planning at Santa Clara University and UCLA Extension. Go Bruins!

Kevin and his family live in Pasadena. In his free-time, Kevin enjoys exploring the city and discovering the best used book stores and coffee shops. He's a design enthusiast with a weakness for vintage audio gear and jazz on vinyl, and in his free time he's usually hunting down used bookstores and coffee shops, working on the house, or towing an Airstream somewhere with better views.
